Hundreds of women have called upon Patricia Corner to aid them through their journey as women. She is the founder of the Goddess Association in Australia Inc and actively shares her Woman Teachings ~ Seasons of Woman ~ now in South Australia after being on the Gold Coast and then on Tamborine Mountain for the past 14 years . Currently Patricia is teaching corporate women how to ‘go with the flow’ in business using the organic cyclic flow of the Moon to bring about even greater success by working with our natural energies that are supported by the Moons movement. … Patricia has worked intimately with the Moon for 2 decades and creates her own Moon Calendars and Diaries. Flowing with the Moon is a pathway that enriches a womans life of self-discovery and self-knowledge in ALL aspects of our lives …

Patricia often describes herself as always being curious and forever fascinated as a Traveller of Beauty … the framework she teaches is the same as the one she lives … Her connecting threads of this Framework are, the Moon, Seasons and Womans Mysteries.

Her indwelling Soul guides are Sacred Archetypes that guide and instruct her … through the Womans Work that she has constantly shared in her teachings, and from her generous creative womb, Patricia has expanded her work from the Nine Faces of WomanHood to the Seasons of Woman … a dance of empowerment through the Life transitions of Woman … in peri menopause we pass through the gateway of the Wild Mother … She who weighs the truth … this gateway is often met with great resistance … when we move through to menopause after consciously dancing with the Wild Mother we hold the keys to our womans wisdom ……

You’re no Frida Kahlo but love to paint? No Anne Tyler but writing is your passion? Or maybe you can’t act your way out of a paper bag but dream of performing Lady Macbeth to a packed house (even if it is community theater)?

Fear not. Being creative isn’t about talent; it’s a state of mind. A kind of “I create, therefore I am!” mentality. Below, 7 ways to get your creativity in gear – and how to keep the momentum going…

1. Do what you love; love what you do.

It’s one thing to say, “I’m a creative person.” It’s another to actually go out and be one. One way to walk your talk is to do the thing that makes you feel passionate and alive; something that really floats your boat.

If strolling through a rose garden puts a smile on your face, for instance, why not create your own floral fantasy, right in your own backyard? (Don’t fret, city-dwellers; that’s what window boxes – or even vases – are for.) If you’ve always suspected that the actor’s life is for you, why not enroll in a drama class or volunteer for a community theater production? Or, if you’ve always wanted to tap dance but have two left feet, dare to take a dance class. Even Savion Glover had to start somewhere. So can you.

2. Think outside the box.

Convinced that you don’t have a creative bone in your body? Pish-tish! Everyone – and I mean everyone – has the capacity to be creative. You just need to redefine what “creativity” actually is and then approach it from that angle.

My client Jen, for example, a business-school grad with a keen, analytical mind, expresses her creativity via a blog she writes about standardization ([http://standardizationglobalization.blogspot.com/]). Another client, Allison, is able to express her creativity via her work as a hairstylist. Although she’s already good at what she does, she’s exploring the possibility of taking cut-and-color classes to add a dash of creativity to her professional development. And my friend Cindy, a no-nonsense accountant who swears up and down that she is not in the least artistic, expresses her creativity via the pages of her beautiful, intricately laid out scrapbooks.

Therefore, ask yourself this: What outside-the-box things can you do to express your creativity? Start brainstorming and see what you come up with. Your answers might surprise, delight and even fascinate you. Give it a try!

3. Keep an open mind.

Even after several attempts at brainstorming, it may turn out that your mind feels blanker than a MoMA canvas. If that’s the case, don’t give up. Try this visualization technique instead: In a quiet place, with no noise, no kids, no cell phone or any other distractions, close your eyes and picture yourself engaged in an activity that genuinely interests and excites you. What are you doing? Whom are you doing it with — are you alone or with a partner? What do you feel? What do you see? Now grab your journal and start jotting down these images, ideas and feelings. Keep writing until your vision begins to take shape.

When you’re in a relaxed, receptive state, open to new thoughts, new feelings and new ideas, chances are that your creativity will rise to the occasion.

4. Work from the outside in.

Another way to flex your creativity muscle is to slightly alter or update your look. If you’re a cashmere twin set and pearls kinda gal, why not shake it up a bit and try something new? A brightly colored scarf? Dangly earrings? Funky shoes? Or, if you’ve sported the same hairstyle since college – or even, heaven forbid, high school – you might consider a subtle update (bangs, anyone?). Same goes for your perfume. Sure, having a signature scent is fine, but don’t be afraid sample other scents too. You might discover that there’s more to life than Chanel No. 5 (sorry, Coco, but it’s true).

That’s not to say you should ignore what you like or change your style completely; going from glam to Goth is not a smooth move. Feeling comfortable and secure in who you are and how you look is, above all, key.

The bottom line? Getting stuck in a rut can be hazardous to your creativity.

5. Have the right tools.

If you’re a wannabe creative writer, you’d better make sure to carry a small journal or notebook with you at all times, to record your thoughts and observations; bits of conversation picked up in your travels; interesting or unusual occurrences; even street signs, T-shirt slogans and bumper stickers (my recent favorite: “Men Are the New Women.”) If you’re an aspiring artist, having a sketchpad and colored pencils or charcoal on hand is key. If you’re a composer, having a tape recorder within reach can be useful.

The point is, writers write. Artists draw. Composers compose. Having the right tools on hand to ply your trade is essential. After all, you never know when the muse will strike. And if it strikes when you’re unprepared, you’ll feel as if you missed out. Or, to put it bluntly, if you snooze… you lose!

6. Step outside your comfort zone.

Playing it safe might work for you in some instances (driving comes to mind), but not when it comes to getting your creative juices flowing. For that, you’ve got to journey along the path not taken. Dare to dream. Take a walk on the wild side. (For inspiration, check out Sark’s The Bodacious Book of Succulence: Daring to Live Your Succulent Wild Life, Fireside Books, 1998).

Now, that’s not to say that you’ve got to run out and get a rose tattooed on your upper thigh, or pierce your septum, or even dye your hair fuchsia in order to be a “wild,” “succulent” and creative woman. Walking on the wild side – at least in this case – involves ignoring that whiny, self-deflating inner voice that keeps trying to tell you, “I can’t.” “I shouldn’t.” Or, “This is not for me.”

Unless you take a chance and see what is out there for you, you may run the risk one day of asking yourself, “Why didn’t I at least try?”

Don’t sell yourself short. Take out all the stops and see what happens. You might surprise yourself.

7. Play the (art) field.

Once you’ve narrowed down what floats your creative boat, get out there and give it your all. Paint up a storm. Dance to abandon. Write your heart out. Ham it up!

If, however, you come to the conclusion that your original vision of what floats your boat isn’t working for you, for whatever reason, don’t despair. Regroup, and try again. Perform the visualization exercise once more and see where it leads. Remember, there is an artistic outlet for you. All you have to do is plug it in, and turn it on!

Most of us who are creative have two major motivations to create.

The first is to discover more about ourselves, figure out who we are, what’s important to us and where we’re heading.

Our creative art in whatever form it takes allows us to experiment, explore and step by step become more ourselves.

The second major motivation to create is to connect with others.

To somehow touch, enrich and add a little colour to the lives of other people, whether they’re people around us, or until now complete strangers.

So think for a moment how this happens in your creative life.

What creative fingerprints are you leaving on the lives of others?

How does your creativity enhance and inspire other people to create more, to understand themselves better, and ultimately be more happy and at peace with themselves?

Creative Inspiration – How Are You Leaving Your Unique Creative Fingerprints On The World?

You might well be thinking: “But how can I do that, I’m not a best selling author or a renowned painter with works in galleries around the world? How can someone like me do any good with what I create?”

What you may be overlooking is that your art, the “creative product” that results at the end of a new project is only a small part of the story.

There are many ways to get your art in front of the eyes of an appreciative audience – especially since the explosion of the internet. But there are other ways, equally powerful and inspiring ways, you can leave your creative fingerprints.

As important as WHAT you create is HOW you create.

Imagine you have a day job local to where to live and walk to work every morning. You regularly pass a young man in a coffee shop, who always has a sketchbook out, scribbling away. You’ve never seen the result of his creativity, in fact it’s not relevant to the impression he leaves on you.

Just by seeing that young man publicly creating each day, being brave enough to demonstrate through his actions that creating is something important enough to him that he has no fear or embarrassment about drawing in the midst of a crowded coffee shop, can’t fail to inspire you.

Or maybe every evening you walk home past a dance studio and see a mature couple in each other’s arms, gracefully gliding through the kind of steps they’ve danced a million times before, still with the same passion and enjoyment that they had when they were young and first met.

Again, you couldn’t help but be inspired and encouraged in your own creativity.

You too can be the young guy sketching in the coffee shop, or the dancing couple. Just by stepping up and creating each day, you also can touch the lives of other creative people, lead by example and say “Creating is a core part of my life, I’m showing my commitment to that by showing up each day and simply creating.”

Think of some of the ways you can do this today. Then put them into action. You have no idea just what kind of fingerprints you could leave on the creative life of another…

Creating is about letting your imagination run free, following those ideas and bringing them into life through your artwork as best you can.

But all too often we expect to have every detail of a new project thought out precisely before we even begin to get our teeth into creating. This instantly puts pressure and limitations on our creativity. It’s the equivalent of tying someone’s arms and legs together and telling them to go and dance freely!

Let’s consider an example to illustrate this.

Say you’re a writer, and you have an idea for a story, about a young woman’s journey through Eastern Europe and her quest to find her ancestors’ origins. Now you might begin with just this much as your initial idea.

As you ponder the next step, you might add a few extra details. Maybe she’s joined along the way by a boy who’s lost his family and offers to be her guide and companion. Maybe her conquest takes her to completely different parts of Europe than she expected. Maybe she discovers her grandfather had nothing like the impoverished background she thought and was actually of Royal descent.

All this unfolds as you think about your story, and as you write. It can’t all be in place at the beginning. As you write your adventure, and as your leading lady explores her heritage, so you explore with her. Writing about her adventure is as much a journey for you as a writer as it is for your character.

You don’t know what will happen next or where the story will lead. And that’s the excitement and the fun of writing!

Imagine instead trying to write your story having planned every single aspect in great detail first. On page 35 Melissa will meet her future guide, the young boy. On page 37 she will ask him how his parents died. On page 145 they’ll cross the bridge she remembers coming to as a young child herself. On page 235 they’ll stop for an improvised meal by the banks of the river, and talk about what they hope to learn by the end of the journey. Melissa will be wearing a white shirt, pale blue skirt, brown leather shoes and her hair will be plaited.

All of these kind of details may well occur as the adventure unfurls. But if you try to plan them perfectly, it only restricts your creativity. It limits your story from going off on unexpected tangents. It prevents you as the author from exploring the other good ideas that are bound to arise as the story unfolds.

If you’ve already decided every element, every act of your story, when and where it will happen and exactly what everyone will be wearing, saying and thinking, you’ve pretty much shut your creativity down before it’s got going.

Remember, your creativity is ever switched on and can take you down unexpected trails at a moment’s notice. That’s what makes it interesting, that’s why you create.

Would you want to read a novel, knowing exactly what’s going to happen at each key stage before hand? Of course not. What would be the point of reading? The same applies to writing, or any other creative form. Give your creativity the space it needs to breathe and the permission to do what it does best – create what wasn’t there before.

It’s only when you give yourself this permission that your creativity can truly dance. Without all its arms and legs tied together!

So what steps can you take to allow your creativity more freedom in your next project? How can you let of go of your expected outcome and let your own creative adventure lead you where it wants to go? Choose a project and set your newly freed creativity dancing right away!

Dancing is Just Like Playing an Instrument – Releasing Energy Through a Creative Outlet

Releasing stress is the most therapeutic ritual that is available to a human being. This can be anything from talking, creating (painting, sculpting, drawing), writing (poetry, stories, music), or exercising and everything in between but we all need a form in one way or another. Self expression is the number one form of release that we all don’t think about as being that way. The power of music and its ability to allow release is something that most people do even if they don’t realize it.

Listening to a good song can make you not worry about life’s suffocation for the time in which you are listening. This can be a great way to just shut your mind off and release that negative energy even if just for a few minutes. When you play an instrument this is even better than just listening but we all can’t play an instrument to maximize the full potential of therapy that music invites.

This is where dancing comes into play. Everyone can dance whether you want to admit it or not. We might not all be the best dancers but we can all physically move our bodies to a beat. This is just natural human instinct. Music has been used throughout the ages to communicate emotion and to release self expression. Dancing is just a product of the wonderful things that music can do for us and to us.

If you take problems on the dance floor you can literally dance them out. Once you are done dancing you have a feeling of peace come over you that can only be achieved through forms of release or self expression. In this world today there are more anxieties and stresses that fill each day than ever before. If you have no way of getting rid or managing that stress it could make you lose who and what you are in a sea of the said stress and anxiety.

When you dance you are playing your body to the music much like how you play an instrument to make music. Your body becomes the notes and rhythms that are being played. You become the music as you dance to it and you become a mannerism of self expression through your interpretation of the music through dance. This is the most primary way to relinquish the awesome power of music and its full potential.

We all need to find a way to release emotion because television and video game do not do this for you. Turning off your mind to some TV is not the world’s worst thing but too many people are consumed by the glow. As much as we take from television it has nothing to give that will help us on our journey through this life. Expressing what you think and what you believe in without using words and thoughts is what this life is all about. As amazing as the written word is and the value that it has we have the potential to say so much without ever saying a word. This is what it truly means to release.
